Anyone else feel like they're being gaslighted about guns?

I grew up in the 90s. We had channels like USA and TNN that played professional wrestling almost 24/7, cartoon channels that actually played cartoons, and a host of other channels with all kinds of content. But despite having all these channels, there still wasn't all that much to watch. So we had to find ways to entertain ourselves outside of television. I'm sure you all remember.

We would go outside and play, and we had to make our own fun. So we would make up games, and these games usually involved us running around in the yard/creek/woods, throwing things, and/or shooting stuff. We would have Nerf wars. We'd throw fruit or water balloons or eggs or foam darts at each other. One of our personal favorites was to get a bunch of empty plastic bottles, fill them 3/4 of the way with water, and then have sling shot battles with them. We'd also have BB gun battles, and one of my friends had one of those Daisy airsoft guns that shot plastic disks. And of course, we would have bow and arrow battles, which were always short because someone would eventually end up bleeding.

All of this went on throughout my childhood and teenage years, and none of us really thought much of it at the time. But now as an adult in my 30s, people are acting like all of this was insane. I got a bow for my niece last year and some people went on and on about how dangerous it is and how I shouldn't have gotten it for her, but she's been shooting it just fine for over a year now.

We've really gone down hill as a society if a kid having a bow is considered crazy and/or dangerous.
