I saw something terrifying on my local news.

I live in a big city, one that has a decently sized population. We have an entire district that's almost solely made up of towering skyscrapers, you know, the usual姿

I was cooking some food last night, and since I'm not the best cook, I have to constantly keep an eye on the food while it's on the stove, or else it'll go from "edible food" to "charred remains of what was once food" in a matter of seconds.

I'm also a weirdo that doesn't like earphones, so I don't listen to music, I have to have a TV or something playing in the background while I do anything remotely domestic, and last night, that "something" was the local news. I was about halfway through the cooking process when I could hear the TV go from "breaking news in the nation" to "breaking news in the city". I didn´t pay much attention to it since I had my hands full.

However, when I heard "...body of a young woman found in an alley. Video footage shows her being grabbed by an unknown man and pulled into the alley. Authorities are looking into the matter and have requested any potential witnesses to come forward." My head whipped towards the direction of the TV, out of instinct more than anything.

The news announcer was just a talking head on the screen, but next to her, they had a picture of the alley with a big red circle around it and a photo of the woman the police had found, with "missing" written above it in red.

I'm not sure what possessed me to do this, but something about the photo of the alley just looked...off. And not "off" like "this is fucked up", off like "this isn't right".

Against my better judgment, I paused the TV and zoomed in on the photo of the alley to take a better look.

It was...our alley. The one in the photo was our alley.

Now, this is gonna sound stupid as all hell, but hear me out. My house is pretty much in the middle of the city, in a street lined with tall buildings. Every house on this street has its own little "mini-apartments", if you will. See, the houses were built in such a way that every 3 houses or so have a little alley in between them, where you can enter the houses that are more towards the "interior" of the block. Meaning the houses that aren't on the street, but deeper in the block.

For example, if you were to enter the alley that separates my house from the one to its right, you would see this:

-My house (the one you entered from)

-One house in front of you, two houses to either side, with a little passage between each pair of houses.

-If you go into the passage to the right, there's two houses.

-If you go into the passage to the left, there's three houses.

I'm one of the houses to the left. Now imagine every other street in the city has a setup that more or less resembles this one.

So you see why I'm sure the photo they showed was of our alley, and not just any other similar one.

I kept zooming in on the photo, until I saw it.

In the picture, you could see a little sliver of the house that's in front of you when you enter the alley. Just a tiny little bit of the wall, the door, and the garage.

In our alley, that house had blue walls and its garage door was a simple metal door that's painted white. In the picture, the wall was a dark brown, and the garage door was one of those wooden accordion doors.

I thought I was going crazy when I noticed this, so I decided to go and double-check. Iawfully left the burning remains of what was supposed to be dinner and went out into the alley.

I only went a few meters outside my house, just so I could see the front house. When I had confirmed that, yes, the front house did have blue walls and a white metal door, I couldn't help but laugh.

I mean, my city is a big place, with thousands of different streets and alleys. Of course it couldn't have been exactly the same one.

Sure, weird coincidence, but I guess the city just really liked this setup, and for some reason, decided to change the door and wall in one of them.

I went back inside, cleaned up the burnt remains of dinner and went to sleep, thinking nothing more of it.

That is, until I woke up this morning.

Against my better judgment, I decided to check the news again.

The news.

The same news from last night, the same announcer, the same everything.

I thought the TV was just bugged or something, since it's an old TV, but then I noticed the "breaking news" watermark on the bottom of the screen.

It was the same exact breaking news from last night. I could hear them talking about the body of a young woman that had been found, with "...video footage shows her being grabbed by an unknown man and pulled into the alley. Authorities are looking into the matter and have requested any potential witnesses to come forward."

I was absolutely dumbfounded when I saw, once again, the photo of the alley next to the talking head.

There it was, our alley, blue front house and white accordion garage door.

I rubbed my eyes, thinking I was hallucinating, but when I opened them again, it was the same.

The photo hadn't changed.

It was our alley now.
