I am not a drill sergeant. I am not there to turn anyone into a functioning adult. I am not a therapist or a social worker. I am not a babysitter.

I didn't sign up for any of that. My job is to teach math, language, and history. <br><br>I am a public school teacher. I know how to teach. I know how to differentiate instruction for students with special needs. I know how to help students make up for lost learning. I know how to engage teenagers in academic contexts. I know how to help a child grow academically. <br><br>I did not sign up to psych a 6th grader out so they can complete a basic assignment. I am not a licensed therapist or a social worker. I am not trained to knit together the fragmented social skills that have been broken by social media and helicopter parents. I am not trained to provide individual psychological help for social disorders or how to nurture someone's damaged self-esteem. I am not trained to make people happy. I am not trained to be a social worker.<br><br>I did not sign up to be a drill instructor. I am not trained to discipline unruly psychopaths. I am not trained to threaten people into doing work. I am not trained to intimidate anyone into line. I am a teacher. I am a guide. I am there to help you make academic progress. I am not trained to be a bully. I am not there to humiliate or harass anyone into being an academic superstar. I am not trained to discipline people. I am not a corrections officer. I am not a parole officer. I am not a drill sergeant. <br><br>I am not a babysitter. I am not trained to keep you from killing yourselves. I am not trained to teach you basic survival skills like how to monitor your own physical needs (how hard is it to go to the bathroom? How hard is it to eat salt and water on occasion?). I am not trained to turn anyone into a functioning human being. I am not trained to keep you alive in between 7:30am - 2:40pm. I am not trained to teach people how to breathe or how to eat or how to not die of dehydration. I am not trained to keep you from hating yourself so much that you want to die. I am a teacher. I am not trained to babysit you or to help you grow up into an adult. I am not trained to show you how to be a friend to people or how to talk to your teacher or how to find your classroom. I am not trained to help you find a job or to show you how to be punctual.
