I was 9 days late to my own abortion appointment

I was 12 years old when it happened. I was a few months pregnant and my family scheduled an abortion with a doctor who performed them secretly to avoid going to jail. I had no idea that having sex with my cousin would get me in this problem. In the 50s, it was frowned upon to be pregnant at my age, and my family didn't want anyone to know. I was scared and didn't know how to tell my parents or siblings. I didn't even know I was pregnant until I went to the doctor for a check-up. I kept this pregnancy a secret and felt like I was all alone in dealing with it. Things were very different back then, and I suffered a lot because of it.
