Give me some constructive criticism for this short essay

This essay is a work in progress and is currently rough around the edges. It’s for school and I have a deadline of 3 hours and I am still working on it. The prompt is as follows: <br>The American Dream is becoming nothing more than a myth. Do you agree with this statement? <br>This is my essay thus far: <br>The American dream is an idea that a city in a land of freedom offers a great opportunity to immigrants from other countries to have a better life. The American dream started during the Great Gatsby era. During that era, people tried to work their way to the top of the ladder by becoming wealthy. Now, the American dream is not possible for everyone anymore and the social classes are becoming more and more separated due to the government. <br><br>The Great Gatsby era was the time when the American dream was starting to get popular. The American dream originated as an ideal by James Truslow Adams in 1931, “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” (Adams, 1931) When immigrants came to the United States to fulfill their dream, they saw change. These weren’t benefits, they were hardships and setbacks, and when they finally reached their dream, they realized it wasn’t the dream they wanted. In Chapter 2 of The Great Gatsby the character, George Wilson, explains to Nick about how he wants to move to the west because he wants a better and more exciting life. “I married him because I thought he was a gentleman,” she said finally. “I thought he knew some’thing about breeding, but he wasn’t fit to lick my father’s boots.” “You ought to look out about that, George,” I warned him. “Who are you, anyhow? You look suspicious to me.” (Fitzgerald, 1925) This quote explains how George Wilson describes his life in his current social class and that he wants to move to the west in order to live a better life. <br><br>In the current era, the American Dream has just become nothing more than a myth. Social classes are more separated than ever before due to the government and jobs. The government is making it very difficult for immigrants to get a better life here. In order to get what you want in order to live a better life you need a good job. But the problem is that the government controls the job market and they are making it very difficult to get a job. Not only is it difficult to get a job, it is also difficult for immigrants to enter the United States without a proper Visa. <br><br>In conclusion, the American dream is becoming nothing more than a myth. The original idea of the dream started back in the Great Gatsby era. George Wilson explains in chapter 2 how he would go to the west in order to live a better life. In this era, the social classes are becoming more and more separated due to the government.<br><br>I am still working on this and will edit it some more, but I want to know what you think so far.
