Hey, you guys. Every time I see someone post about their bad experiences with Russian, they say the *exact same thing*:

-“I tried to learn Russian before, but I gave up! I wish I had thought of this with Spanish!”

- “I’ve always wanted to learn Russian, but I was afraid of the grammar.”

- “I used to know some Russian, but I ended up with a lot of foreign guys calling me and asking to send money.”

All of those things are true. Russian is the most difficult language I know to learn and I’ve spent my entire life trying to master it. I’ve seen some people go through a lot of trouble and expense to become proficient, but it’s always worth it. Once you learn Russian, you’ll be able to communicate with nearly 200 million people around the world. It sounds like a lot of work, but it’s worth it.

I’ve learned seven other languages in my time, and never once have I regretted the effort to learn Russian. I’ve met so many fascinating people, read so many interesting things, and seen so many amazing places. Anybody who tries to learn Russian gets the same thing out of it that I do, and it’s never a waste of time.

People are always afraid of Russian because of the structure. Russian has the same basic structure as all other European languages, with a couple extra cases to memorize. In fact, about 30% of Russian roots are the same as in English, making it relatively easy to communicate with people in Russia if you know some Russian.

Russian is a Slavic language, which means it’s relatively easy to learn once you understand the grammar. Russian has six cases, which doesn’t make it harder to learn, it just makes it easier. Russian cases are hard to explain, but they’re like a switch that changes the pattern of a sentence based on what the subject of a sentence is. For example, if you’re saying “The dog put the ball on the table,” you use the nominative case. If you’re saying “The ball was put on the table by the dog,” you use the instrumentally, but only for the word “dog.”

Russian cases aren’t that hard to learn, and most people are able to start using them after a couple of months of practice. I’ve tried to explain Russian cases to a lot of people, but even my own Russian teachers have a hard time explaining how the cases work.

I’ve learned Russian the hard way. By that, I mean I didn’t learn Russian until after college. Most people who learn Russian learn it in school, but I learned it from books and the internet. I’ve spent a lot of time and money learning Russian, and it was all a waste of time because I could have learned it faster and more easily.

Russian is the best language I know to learn, because you can talk to so many people and see so many countries. I’ve met so many fascinating people, read so many interesting books, and seen so many amazing places. Russian is my favorite thing to do, and I will never get tired of it. Never give up on learning Russian if you really want to, because it’s worth it!

So, the next time you’re thinking about learning Russian, step into the ring and see if you can defeat the beast. You can’t lose!
