I’m a little over pregnant here (38 weeks), so I’m gonna be as brief as possible, but this is a great question and the answer is important.

There are so many different religions in the US and many varying sects of Christianity.

As a side note, the Christian faith is not currently divided into two separate religions — Catholicism *is* a Christian faith, as are Baptists, Episcopals, presbyterians, etc. I’m including Christian denominations as well as independent religions in my response.

Here’s where various religions and Christian denominations stand on abortion:

**Believe abortion should be banned or heavily restricted**

- Catholicism - all abortions are considered sin
- Mormonism (LDS faith) - abortions are wrong, but there are exceptions
- Baptist - (varies church to church), but most believe they should be banned
- Nazarenes - abortions are wrong, but they allow for exceptions
- Evangelical churches - varies widely church to church, but tend to believe they should be banned
- National Association of Evangelicals - believes they should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Eastern Orthodox churches - believe they should be banned, but you can use exceptions if your priest allows it
- Islam - most believe that abortion is wrong and should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Jehovah’s Witnesses - believe they should be banned, but there are exceptions
- United Pentecostal Church - believe they should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Reformed churches (Presbyterian, Reformed Baptist, etc.) - believe they should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Lutheran (Missouri Synod only) - believe abortions are wrong and should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Seventh Day Adventist - believe they should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Orthodox Judaism - believe that it should be forbidden, but there are exceptions
- The Church of Christ - believe that abortions are wrong and should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Fundamentalist churches - bans vary widely church to church, but most do not permit abortion
- Anglican - used to be very strict, but now most believe that it should be legal with some restrictions
- Bible churches / Independent churches - varies church to church, but most believe that abortion is wrong
- Salvation Army - believe it should be illegal, but there are exceptions
- Assemblies of God - believe that abortion is wrong and should be banned, but there are exceptions
- Church of the Nazarene - believe that abortion is wrong and should be banned, but there are exceptions

**Believe abortion should be banned during the 3rd trimester**

- Plymouth Brethren - believe abortion should be restricted in 3rd trimester, but not before
- Methodist - believe that abortions should be rare and is not permitted in late term pregnancies
- Presbyterian - (not Missouri Synod) - believe that abortion is wrong in the 3rd trimester

**Believe abortions should be rare, but legal**

- Anglicans (before 2019, now most are pro-choice)
- Christian Scientists - believe that abortion is wrong, but it’s a woman’s choice
- Episcopalians - believe that it should be legal and accessible
- Lutherans - (not Missouri Synod) - believe that abortions should be rare, but legal
- Mennonites - believe that abortions should be rare, but legal
- United Church of Christ - believe that abortions should be rare, but legal
- Unitarians - believe that abortions should be rare, but legal
- Congregationalists - believe that abortions should be rare, but legal
- United Methodists - believe that abortions should be rare, but legal
- Reform Judaism - believe that abortions should be legal

**Pro-choice / believe abortions should be legal and accessible**

- Buddhists - believe that woman should have a choice
- Agnostics / Atheists - (generally-speaking) - believe that women should have a choice
- Hindus- believe that abortions should be legal and rare
- Pagans - (generally-speaking) - believe that women should have a choice
- Satanic churches - believe that women should have a choice
- Scientology - (silently) - doesn’t believe women should have abortions, but does believe women should have a choice
- Sikhs - believe that women should have a choice
- Taoists - believe that women should have a choice
- Wiccans - (generally-speaking) - believe that women should have a choice

Please note that every single sect within Christianity and many other religions have varying opinions on the topic and many of them have worked out their own exceptions. Additionally, this was a long list and I’m sure there are many groups I missed. But they all come to the same conclusion: the only person to judge is yourself.

No one deserves to be judged for a pregnancy that they do not wish to carry to term.
