He used to come in once every few weeks and buy 2-3 10 round mags for his G19. He’d ask me when the 20 round ones were coming back in stock. I’d tell him I don’t know, they’re illegal in his home state (WA), and the manufacturer hasn’t said they’ll make that kind of mag again. He said he didn’t care about that - he wanted them for his Glock. I asked why he didn’t buy 20 round mags for his Glock before the ban, he said he didn’t know they were available. I said why do you care so much about buying these, he said he wanted to buy them before other people did, even though it was illegal for him to buy them.

This guy used to come in every few weeks with stacks of $100 bills and buy the mags and a few other things like his 2-3 boxes of ammo. I didn’t know how much money he had, but he had a very large house and a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo. He also bought some other stuff - He traded in his new Kimber 9mm subcompact pistol for a Glock 43x. I told him he was making a terrible choice, the Glock is much larger than the Kimber, the Kimber is a far superior pistol, etc. He said he wanted something new, but he got tired of it after 2 weeks and sold it to another customer at a gun show. He also bought 2k rounds of 9mm hollow point, which was also illegal in his state.

I’d ask him about other things, and he’d never even heard of them. He was a very odd but nice little old Chinese man. He’d also constantly give out hundreds of dollars worth of stuff to his friends who were much younger and probably 20-30 years his junior.

I eventually realized he was buying all these magpul magazines because he bought all his possessions as a status symbol. The only time I saw him fill one of his magazines and shoot it was when he got it back at a gun show. A younger guy challenged him to a shootout, then started taking potshots and bouncing hollow points off his car. The old Chinese man pulled out his 2 Glock 43x’s and fired 1 round at a time, taking out one of the guys tires and causing him to panic and run. He never even got up from his chair. I heard later he had a 2 round burst shotgun and all sorts of other things back in China, but his favorite thing to take home was a half dozen bottles of $10 scotch. I never got to see him again since I moved, but I wonder where he is today.
