HunterHunter is a Kid's Anime

HunterHunter is a kid's anime. It need to be said. Whether you like this or not it is the truth. Hunterhunter is a lot of things, it's a kids anime, it proves this so much throughout the manga and the little bit of anime we have. (up to mid chimera ants arc)

HunterHunter is a kid's anime proves this early on in the black whip arc. We have some lovely lines:

“it’s just like how many parents and kids don’t get along. I don’t know if we’ll like each other during our lives. But as long as I am your father, I will always protect you, and you are my son. So I will love you, and care for you, and honor you for all eternity, even if you don’t honor me. I will atone for my sins by doing so. I can’t do anything else. But that doesn’t matter. Because now my son is here. My son is here right now. I have a son. You are my son. You are my son….”

This is extremely wholesome. This is something that is supposed to be comforting.

HunterHunter is a kid's anime proves this even more so in the parts surrounding Hisoka. Hisoka is disgusting and something kids wouldn't love. I mean a kids favorite things are his friends and family. Hisoka is someone who gets off on taking and destroying those things. In the beginning he's introduced as a friend that you can trust. But now it seems like he's more of like a step dad that you just don't like. You have to respect him because he takes care of you and you are a guest in his house.

HunterHunter is a kid's anime proves this by the fact that it has a very wholesome plot. A bumbling father figure (leorio), a very cool oh so unreachable father figure (hisoka), a best friend who is the main character (Killua), and a boy who had his whole family and village destroyed (Gon) all have to work together to figure out what it means to be a real father. What is a real father? Is it someone who nurtures you? Is it someone who takes care of you? No, that is not a father. A father is someone who you never have to see. He is the one who makes sure you get a scholarship to some where far away. He is the one who puts food on the table even if he is nowhere to be seen. A father is the one who will always be there for you, even if he is never there for you. This is a kids anime because it teaches you that the most important thing in your life is your father.

HunterHunter is a kid's anime because of the age of the main character. Gon is 11 years old in the beginning of the story. His age is always explicitly stated. We get to see Gon as a very wide eyed and excited 11 year old boy.

HunterHunter is a kid's anime because it teaches you wholesome lessons. These are things like the importance of friendship. But not just that, it teaches you that your friends should be your friends and your family should be your family. You need to let your friends mourn and process things on their own. (Like how Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika do something separate after the York New arc)

An anime that is meant to be for kids. Just like Dragonball Z, One Piece, Bleach, and My Hero Academia.

This is a post I made on a HunterHunter subreddit.
