I have seen a lot of posts of teachers who are concerned about their students when schools inevitably close. While I get that, and I'm worried about my kids too, that's not what you signed up for. If you are in this profession and expect a traditional contract with summers and holidays off, you need to find a new career.

I didn't sign up for this either, but fuck, I'm going to do my damnedest to make sure these kids don't lose their minds, and we can pick up where we left off in the fall. But it's not ideal and I worry about all of them. The ones who already don't have enough to eat. The ones with parents who are too lazy to care. The ones who depend on me for a calm in the storm. All of them. All of us are in uncharted territory, and all we can do is put one foot in front of the other.

I know I sound a little bitter, but I am. This has shaken me, and I'm still adjusting. But if you're a teacher and you didn't realize this was a possibility, you're an idiot. I can't up and quit, and I wouldn't anyway. These kids are my responsibility, even if we're not in class.

The kids are counting on us, and even if it's virtual, we can't disappoint them.
