Why are so many nerdy and smart people against self-defense and defense of the innocent? Why do so many nerds not care about the poor and oppressed?

I see it a lot in the science and STEM subreddits. Nerds that are against self-defense and defending the poor and oppressed. Nerds that are against an armed populace, but won't explain why an armed populace would be bad, or talk about how tyrannical governments throughout history murdered tens of millions of innocent people because they weren't armed. It seems that many nerds just don't care about the poor and oppressed, or standing up for the innocent. If they had their way, they would disarm the population, and hand the country entirely over to the government, and make the government more tyrannical and oppressive. Why are there so many nerds like this? From what I've seen, they seem to make up the majority of the nerdy and STEM subreddits.<br><br>Edit: I'm getting a lot of responses from people saying that self-defense is fine, but that mass murder defense systems that the military uses are too dangerous for the public to have. The thing is, self-defense is not just a matter of having a weapon. Self-defense is about being able to defend yourself from being murdered or oppressed by the government or tyrannical people in power. This requires the ability to defend yourself on a large-scale. Meaning that you need large scale weapons to defend yourself on a large-scale, otherwise you have no protection from a government gone tyrannical or fascist, that wants to murder you. <br><br>The argument "The government has tanks and drones and bombs, so you can't defend yourself from that, and therefore you shouldn't have any weapons at all" is absolutely ridiculous. If the government has so many mass murder systems, all the more reason to have your own mass murder systems to defend yourself with. A pointed stick won't cut it, or even a small-caliber handgun. It's true that the government is more heavily armed than the public, and in order to not be oppressed you have to be as heavily armed as the government. If they have drones and bombs and tanks and aircraft carriers and nuclear bombs, then you should have your own drones and bombs and tanks and aircraft carriers and nuclear bombs if you want to not be oppressed or murdered by the government or other tyrannical entities. Anything less would be suicide.<br><br>Most people are not evil enough to mass murder a bunch of innocent people they know nothing about, just because they are ordered to by their government. There would have to be some reason or motivation for them to hate, or for them to believe that the people that they are mass murdering are less than human and deserve death. Like what happened in Nazi Germany. The nazi government propagandized the population into believing that Jewish people were evil, less than human, and hated by God, and that they should be murdered for the good of the demos.
