I get the feeling anime is gravitating towards a more western audience

I have been watching anime for 15 years now and I have felt a huge shift in terms of the overall quality of the content coming out now compared to years ago. I've seen a lot of increase in popularity and I think someone said that anime has been getting more and more popular over the years, but since covid it's been an absolute explosion. I guess the part of anime that I have always gravitated towards is what I would call the quirkiness that anime has. There's just something unique in terms of content that you cannot find in any western movies or shows. I think the best example I can give is the series Ergo Proxy. But I feel like the ones that have a sense of "quirkiness" are becoming less and less each year and it's getting replaced by what I'll call anime that is "hybridized" with western content. I get the feeling that more and more content now days gravitates towards a more western audience, but then again it could just be my old boomer mind. I think that's why I personally love the directors like Murakami, Shinkai, Anno and Oshii have always been my favorite directors. They seemed to hold down that unique feel that anime has that you can't find anywhere else. It seems like now days a lot of directors are trying to hold down the vibe of western content. I don't know if this is the right chamber to post this or not, but I have a strong feeling that a lot of the best content has already been made and a large portion of the new content coming out is being made for the purpose of glorification of the past. I see a lot of recent shows go straight onto the "highest rated anime" list on MAL and it boggles my mind how they are so high up. I don't know what it is, I just feel like something is missing in a lot of the content coming out now. I also feel like the internet as a whole has gravitated away from more intellectual types of content and it has shifted more towards praising content made for 12 year olds. I know this isn't true on this chamber, it's mainly on other platforms like youtube. It seems like the things that raise the most sheer interest is content that is shallow and doesn't really offer a lot. I'm not saying that a ton of good content hasn't come out in the past few years (Violet Evergarden, Bocch the Rock!, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Suzume, Akebi's Sailor Uniform) but it feels like there's a lot of content coming out, but there isn't very much that is really leaving a lasting impact on the viewer. There are a few exceptions, but I feel like even some of those exceptions are more so just made for the younger audience and not the older folks. Like Chainsaw Man is great and all, but in my opinion it was nowhere near as good as Parasyte the Maxim or Shingeki no Kyojin in terms of storytelling and impact it has on the viewer. I know that it's out of my hands and that I should just enjoy the content that I enjoy and not worry too much about it. But I would really hate to see the anime industry change for the worst, I think that a lot of the best content that the world has ever seen has been made through anime and I can't imagine a world where that kind of content is not being made anymore.
