I snapped at a local at a shop in Italy, I feel like an idiot and an asshole

I’m an American living in Italy for work purposes. Today I was at a local tobacco shop buying something and I asked the lady behind the register if they accept card payment. She said yes, but then she was struggling to figure out how to use the card machine. I used Google translate to say “well maybe you don’t accept card then” and she said “well if you had cash then you wouldn’t have a problem” and I gave her a look and said “fuck you” under my breath in Italian.

As an American, cash is not a common form of payment for me. I’m used to using cards everywhere and almost never keep cash on me. I was in a hurry and didn’t want to think about it too much but holy fuck did I snap at the lady in the shop. She was condescending and rude to me but I feel horrible because I could tell she was pissed that I spoke to her like that.

I just feel stupid because I’m a guest in a foreign country and I snapped at a local for no reason, and at the time she was also right that if I had cash this wouldn’t have been an issue. It would’ve been better if I just paid in cash, but I didn’t. I snapped at a lady for no reason and I want to go back and apologize to her, but I don’t know what to say.

Anyways, I feel like an idiot and an asshole
