How do you end a work day, with tasks still left to do?

I know that the default answer is "just leave them behind", but what does that mean exactly? I'm taking my lunch break at 2:00 everyday and my workday ends at 4:00. By 3:45, I feel like I'm burning fuel while waiting for the next morning.
