I walked in on a baby being starved to death in a boarding house.

When I was a teenager, I lived in a boarding house, it was pretty nice. It was ran by an older couple who had a daughter. The man was a retired military guy, and his wife worked as a nurse. Their daughter was our "roommate".

Anyway, the father was a disabled vet, and he was bed bound. The mother worked so much as a nurse to provide for the household and the father's needs.

The daughter had a baby when she was around my age (14/15) and was nowhere near being emotionally able to take care of him. The mother treated the baby extremely cruelly, and unfortunately I witnessed it a few times. One was when she was cleaning out the refrigerator and she tossed a half full bottle of formula in the trash, remarking "I'm sick of cleaning up after that fucking baby and buying him formula, waste of my hard earned money."

One day I saw the baby eating dog food out of the dog bowl. I was so fucking horrified, but the mom just laughed and told me to mind my own business. This was the breaking point for me, I fucking told her I was going to call the authorities if she didn't feed him or get him food. She told me she would call the cops on me if I left the property for any reason.

I *had* to tell someone. I walked down to the neighbor's house, which was only a couple houses down and I walked in and told the woman there what was going on.

Come to find out, the mother and daughter were selling the formula and food they bought, and the baby was starving, literally to death.

I remember waking up in the middle of the night to CPS and the police coming into the boarding house and removing the baby. The mother was crying and begging them not to take him.

I never saw the baby again after that night, but the mother was a wreck. She gained a significant amount of weight and eventually quit her job at the hospital. I moved out shortly after, and when I did, they were on the verge of losing the house due to them losing so much money. The roommates were all being evacted, and I got out just in time.

It's so fucked up that people treat their children like that. I actually still think about this baby and what happened to it, all these years later.
