ELI5: Why do people like to get high?

Like my bf smokes weed and its like, why would you wanna feel like a zombie all the time? I dont get it.<br><br>Edit: Thank you all so much for letting me in your minds. Its really interesting to see peoples thoughts on it. Im sorry if I offended anyone or made anyone feel bad for using drugs. I just dont understand why anyone would want to be high all the time. Everyone has their own reasons and i can see how it could be beneficial for some people. Thanks again :)
