My colleague just said "like, did you watch the last part of the movie? That's how life is. You get married and it's happy, but eventually, your girlfriend cheats on you, you start disputing and then you divorce. Or she'll cheat on you and then you'll divorce. Or she'll cheat on you and this'll go on for years. She'll die on your bed beacause of cancer or something. And then... the next morning, you two will be happy again like if nothing happened."

He was talking about Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004), a movie about a man and woman who, after a painful breakup, undergo a procedure to have their memories of each other erased. Essentially, they are having their relationship reset and are able to relive the relationship for the second time, which is a metaphor for just how hard it is to get out of a toxic relationship.

I never saw the movie, but the way he described it made me think about how this describes marriage so well.

Edit: he said that on the behest of his wife, who said that "like, you wouldn't ever get married if you knew what marriage is about, like, in all those years, there's gonna be times where you are gonna suffer a ton and it's gonna look like it's the end. But it's not."

Why the hell would you tell your husband this shit on their honeymoon?
