Hi. I'm from Norway and here the stores don't throw away food "that quickly" unlike the US. To me it makes absolutely no sense that they're going to throw away food just because of the packaging is broken or because it wasn't sold on the "Best Before" day.

That's why I've started to look into discount stores. The discount stores are getting the food that are otherwise going to be thrown away because of the packaging is damaged or other things like that.

In these stores you can get food for really cheap, e.g. full fat milk for $0.80 a liter, a big pack of strawberries for $1.32, 5 pounds of cherries for $4.27 (the cheapest I've found in other stores is $11 for 1 pound) and much more. Just to mention a few :)

I've also seen some really cheap meat sometimes. 1 pound of chicken breasts for 2/3/4 dollars. It's just sad to see a whole chicken or for example a big piece of beef that has just gone bad because of the packaging and have to be cleared out.

I've also been looking into buying at stores where you can buy all sorts of food for about a dollar a pound and also the "Ugly" food stores.

I've never thought about eating like this before at all, but now I feel really good about saving some money and also don't let the food I buy go to waste :)
