Why do people keep talking about Henry Kissinger like he’s a good thing?

Kissinger was a war criminal, and the recent talk of him as a great diplomat in the past infuriates me. He was instrumental in prolonging the Vietnam War. The US dropped 500,000 tons of bombs on Cambodia, which destabilized the government and led to the Khmer Rouge’s takeover. The American bombing of Laos was so bad that the country is still littered with unexploded bombs that continue to claim victims.

How did Kissinger get a Nobel Peace Prize for ending a war that he made so much worse? His policy of realpolitik was used to justify brutal American aggression around the world.

Can someone explain to me why anyone would want to go back to the foreign policy of Kissinger?
