Does anyone else HATE the phrase “It takes a village” now?

This phrase used to be so inspiring to me. I still think it’s mostly a good thing. I’m pretty liberal but the constant demand on my time for volunteering is literally draining my will to live. I get up to work at 600am, I go home and pick my kid up, I spend 3 hours making dinner/bringing her to soccer, I work for three more hours, I put her to bed, and I check my phone and have THREE emails from the school asking if I can volunteer to help with bake sales or coaches a sport or sell some stupid popcorn or cookies. I love my kid, but I’m also a teacher, and I also have a job. I also work for her and with her up to a total of 13 hours a day. I don’t have three fucking hours to help you do your job as a principal and sell some cookies.

I just don’t get it. I know it’s for the kids, but I work for the kids too.
