Gun to my head

When I was a teenager my mom and I were flying out to New York to visit my aunt and uncle for the holidays. I don't know if anyone will believe this because this happened over 30 years ago, but just about a month before we're set to fly out there was a news story about an incident on a commercial airline where someone hijacked the plane with a gun in their mouth. The idea was that you would never get caught with the weapon because both the scanner and the people screening you would be afraid to touch the weapon, so you'd just walk by with the gun in your mouth.

So when I got to the airport for my flight, I had a .22 pistol in my mouth and the five bullets for that weapon in my carry-on. The TSA agents at the time were usually old school retired police or sheriffs, and when they saw my bullets, they just told me to put them away. I told them I couldn't, and gave them the story about hijacking and how there was a weapon in my mouth, and that if they scanned me I'd blow my brains out. They told me I was being ridiculous and told me again to put the bullets away. I told them I had to get on a plane, and if I didn't get on that plane I would miss Christmas with my family. They told me I was being a jerk.

They called their supervisor over and he asked what was going on, they told him, and he looked at me, shook his head, and waved me through. I took my gun out and put it and the bullets in my carry on.

The flight was uneventful, but my aunt called me on January 2nd and told me that there was a story in the news that morning about an incident at the airport, where someone went through security in the same manner I did, but actually blew their brains out when they were scanned. It was the same supervisor from my story that scanned the guy. I like to think he felt bad for waving me through.
