How do you teach without the kids getting upset and getting a phone call to the principal?

Our county is very much “don’t say gay” and I’ve been told by other teachers to never call parents and a lot of kids get upset easily over the smallest things and I don’t want to ruin my reputation as a teacher. What should I do?<br><br>Edit: I’m a student teacher
