There's a lot of debate on this subject, and there's also a lot of confusion about what the causes of poverty are. There's also an issue when it comes down to what evidence is more important than other types of evidence.

So to me there's 2 kinds of poverty, the lack of money and assets to keep yourself and your family alive, and asset poverty.

Poverty is a problem that is persistent, but the levels of poverty do change, especially in wealthy nations.

The first reason for poverty that I see as being very common is being born into a poor family. Children born into poverty are more likely to become poor adults. So if you're born into a situation where your family is already poor, you are more likely to be poor.

The second reason for poverty that I see is lack of good paying work. Or lack of work in general. Many jobs are low paying, and that leads to poverty.

The third reason for poverty is systemic racism and sexism. Racism and sexism have been used as reasons to deny people access to assets that can help them get out of poverty, and lack of access to good paying work.

The fourth reason for poverty that I see is lack of access to affordable healthcare. If you can't get good healthcare, you're more likely to be in poverty. You can't work if you're sick.

The fifth reason for poverty is the way that capitalism is practiced. The wealthy tend to have more power than the poor. Capitalism does tend to create wealth, but for who? Sometimes it doesn't create wealth for everyone.

I can also see lack of education as a reason for poverty as well. If you don't have an education that leads to a good paying job, you're more likely to be in poverty.

These are just some of the reasons that I see for poverty. I really don't think that there is just one reason for poverty today. I think that all of these reasons are interconnected to each other.
