I'm a cleaning lady for rich people and I've never seen so much waste.

I don't know what kind of chamber post this is going to be or what kind of feedback I'm going to get, but I thought I should just share my observations here. Maybe someone will find it interesting, who knows.

I work for a company that specializes in housekeeping. The rich employ us, we clean up after them. I clean 2 houses a day, everyday, for the past 5 years. It's not necessarily a bad job, but during this time I've come to realize how much these people waste, and how much unnecessary items they own.

My typical day is divided between two houses. The first house is usually smaller, around 300-500 square meters. It belongs to a family who are often on vacation and only use their home 2-3 times a month. They have 2 children but the children never come to this house. It's mostly the mom and pop who stay here sometimes. Honestly, I have no idea why they even own it. I've worked for them for 5 years and I don't think they've stayed there more than 30 times in total, and yet they've renovated the house 4 times, they've always changed the furniture and decorations, they always buy unnecessary items that they never use. One time I saw them throw out a bunch of brand new cleaning supplies, vacuum, mop, broom. They threw them out bc the cleaning supplies company had sent them the wrong color, and they wanted them in lavender instead of blue. They could have just used them, but they said the blue "ruined the aesthetic" of their cleaning supply closet. Lol

Other houses have insane amounts of clothes, shoes and accessories. One house I clean I'm sure has over 300 pairs of shoes, easily. They're a family of four but they have four walk-in closets in the house. Each one of them probably has 50-70 pairs of shoes, and 100-150 dresses or pants or shirts. And I'm sure they only wear 5% of it throughout the year. And they don't even buy cheap stuff. They'll have a designer dress that costs over 1k that they've never worn that's just sitting in the closet. I've seen entire rooms that aren't even used. A house will have 5 bedrooms and only two of them will be used. The other rooms are empty or used as storage space for clothes they don't even wear.

There's this one house in particular that always left me speechless. They have a huge walk-in closet for their child who is 4. The closet is literally as big as a studio apartment. I'm not exaggerating. It's huge. The kid has an amount of clothes that would be insane for an adult, but for a 4 year old it's just ridiculous. The kid grows out of clothes so fast at this age, so they just buy more and more and more. And they're all designer clothes too. I'm sure this kid never wears 70% of the clothes they own. And they have so many accessories like hair clips, purses, hats, belts and they're all designer too. The mother told me she spends around 2k-3k per month on clothes for her child. It's insane.

I could go on and on but the point is, I've been cleaning rich people's homes for years and I've never seen this many unnecessary items hoarded by one person. All they do is buy, buy, buy, and most times they don't even use what they buy. They throw out so much stuff too without using it. I'm not sure what kind of mental disorder this is, and honestly I don't care if they want to waste their money on stupid stuff, but I think it's so unfair that there are people out there who can't afford basic needs like food, shelter and clothing, while on the other end of the spectrum there is an entirely different world of people who have so much that they don't even know what to do with it all.
