What takes fewer mental gymnastics to explain, Dystopian shows or Real life?

There are so many shows and movies in recent years that have been based on dystopian situations and I feel like they are more plausible and require less mental gymnastics to explain the logic behind the situation than real life. A prime example for me of this is this year’s election. We have mounds of evidence showing high levels of voter suppression, but we act as if this is an election like any other. This brings me directly to this year’s election. We’ve seen the abuse of power Trump has had in office and if he were to be reelected, we know he would be more aggressive and unapologetic.
