My student is in danger and I don't know what to do.

He is 8th grade. He is a "problem child." The school I teach at is kind of a specialty school for kids who have had a tough time adjusting at their regular schools. My student was kicked out of two regular schools for violence. This is his last chance before he gets sent to a special school for kids with serious issues.

Other teachers complain about the kid nonstop. He lies. He steals. He hits. He spits. He is defiant. He is manipulative. He is intentional in his misbehavior. He is not autistic. He does not have ADHD. He is not bipolar. He does not have ODD (apparently). He is a bad kid.

He took my stapler today, and when I asked for it back, he punched me (it didn't hurt, but it was weird and scary). He was sent to the principal and was put on a list for home suspension. All of his teachers have been talking about how great it will be to have him gone for a while.

I am worried about him. I don't know why. I don't like him. He is a jerk. But something is telling me to be worried about him.

I talked to the principal and the school counselor and voiced my concerns. They think I'm dumb. They think I'm a rookie dumb teacher. They think I'm being fooled by a bad kid.

I need help. What are my next steps here? I don't want to brush off my gut feeling. Something is wrong with this kid. How do I find out what it is? What kinds of questions should I be asking this kid? What can I do to help?
