King suffers from Walter White Syndrome

I just finished The Institute and while my overall impression is that it's a satisfying horror novel, I find myself loathing most of the characters in the way I loathe Walter White.

The Institute is a powerful and well written novel, the story is fun to follow, and it's scary in many ways, but we get to see the story from the perspective of a child author who is a child genius and a child prodigy and a master of the English language and history.

I can only imagine that his prose will continue to degrade in likeness to the quick degradation of quality of Breaking Bad after Walter White, a former high school chemistry teacher, became a meth kingpin genius billionaire.

It's fun to imagine a story being told from the perspective of a genius, but it's not very realistic, and it's not very enjoyable to read a story narrated by someone who is browbeating the reader with how intelligent they are and how dumb the reader is for not understanding the obviously genius plan to defeat the bad guys, after it has been explained slowly and repeatedly for the past 50 pages.

That's my main criticism of the book. I would love to hear from others who have read it, or who have not read it and have comments on my review.
