Show, don't tell...but what does it mean?

So I'm an English lit graduate, a published author and even had a teaching qualification that I used for a while. And like a fool I thought I knew what it meant. But after a whilst being away from writing I've just started writing again, and realised that that bloody phrase is meaningless to me. But I know it's important.

Of course I know what the phrase means...but I can't think of how to apply it. I get too caught up in how words sound, the rhythm of the sentence for example. I can write an interesting paragraph about how warm the sun is, but when I read it back I feel like I'm reading a paragraph about how warm the sun is. I fail to feel like I am *there*, sitting in the warm sun. I have always struggled with that, but now that I've started writing more I really want to crack it.

So please, tell me what techniques you use to show rather than tell in your writing, and what you recommend to get better at it.

Throwing in some examples or anecdotes would be super helpful.

The post body is just for context, I'd love to hear from you guys as the content creators that your amazing sub is full of.

Thank you!
