AITA for taking back the promotion?

We own a mid size company and employ many people. All our children work in the company and one of our sons are being groomed to take over.

He is 32 and besides being very lazy, he's extremely incompetent and makes one mistake after the other. We still made the decision to give him a high position in the company and we thought that might make him more responsible, that did not happen. We gave him control of one department which has never thrived under his leadership. We as owners were made obsolete in the decisions of the company which has never been the case. With the seniority we have, we would have a say in things and our voice be heard. However, it was all ignored. We also got several complaints from employees who work under him that he is not around most of the time but still wants to be paid overtime.

We have decided to take back the promotion and moved him to work under someone else and we have many complaints regarding his work quality, we were even threatened with a lawsuit by a client. This is the tipping point when we sat him down and told him he's failing in his position. He blamed it on us for not giving him control of the company after he graduated. He then went on a tirade about how he was better than this and deserves a higher position than the one he's in. We told him to shape up or ship out and the minute we close the company we will cut him out and that he will not be the one to take over.

He went and told his siblings and wife and they all on his side. They think that he's right and we should have given him the reins, especially his wife. She was the one who convinced us to give him the promotion but now she's saying we were just testing him.

He's now not showing up to work and we are getting calls and text that we are horrible parents to him and we are being unfair and cruel to him.

Now we are wondering, AITA?
