Thousands of Fake Servers on Discord

This mod is on the front line of fighting them, here’s what I have learned.**<br><br>The fake servers are set up with an aim to trick people into donating money via cryptocurrency, or to obtain personal information that can then be used as part of phishing attacks or identity theft. In other cases, they are used to spread propaganda or to create fake conflict and division. These servers often have convincing names, logos, and branding, making it difficult for users to distinguish between real and fake.<br><br>The above is how fake servers are being used. This is what I found.<br><br>Discord is full of these servers. There are literally thousands of them. I have seen fake servers for<br><br>* Deradicalisation<br>* Suicide help lines<br>* Mental health hotlines<br>* Support for women and children who are victims of abuse<br>* LGBTQ+ support<br>* Support for refugees and immigrants<br><br>It is clear that the creators of these fake servers don’t care who they target or how it will affect them. They are callous opportunists who only care about making money. I have seen a nano, a micro and a macro level. There are *thousands* of these servers. They are easy to make, using discord bots to populate the channels and roles. <br><br>Discord’s terms of service prohibit the use of servers for illegal activities, including fraud and phishing. However, the platform's openness and lack of strict moderation make it an attractive target for scammers. Fake servers can be created quickly and easily, and can be used to trick users into downloading malware or revealing sensitive information.<br><br>This sub is very much on the front line. The people behind these servers are constantly changing their approach, and the nature of the servers varies wildly. They are prolific. I have never seen a single day go by where I have not seen at least 20 such servers. They are undoubtedly linked to each other - it is clear how they talk to each other using discord DMs (I have seen this happen) - and they will not stop easily. They are so confident that they will not be caught that they tell each other in public DMs how many times they have been banned. <br><br>So be very careful, and never trust servers that contact you out of the blue.
