What are the ethics of linking books and academic papers in a discussion, when they are behind a paywall?

So once in a while I’ll be on Chambers, and I’m having a discussion with someone, and I’m citing academic papers and books, and someone will inevitably ask for the link, and then will be disappointed or pissed that they’re behind a paywall. I don’t know what to do; I don’t want to break the law, and I’m sure I don’t have the money to pay for every mentioned work to be open access. So what do I do?
