God, humans can be so stupid

Why would we go through the effort of finding a distant exoplanet that has the resources for life to potentially form, only not to take the effort to terraform it? Why are we still on this stupid planet, when we have the resources and technology to create or terraform a new planet to be the exact way we want it to be? Why are we still fighting over the few resources we have, and spending billions on wars when we could have a planet fit for humans to thrive for a fraction of the cost and effort? Why do we as a species get so caught up with the present that we forget to think about the future?
