OpenAI's "continuous" pricing is predatory, a constant cash grab

OpenAI charges by **prompt token and response token**. This is a "continuous" pricing model.

I'm complaining about it because this pricing model is forced on everyone when a tiered pricing model would be more appropriate. There are plenty of use-cases where a "tiered" pricing model makes far more sense to the user than a "continuous" pricing. By trying to force the "continuous" pricing model OpenAI is trying to push people to years of subscription, which is a predatory behavior.

Consider the following:

You need to have a business subscription if you want to use OpenAI's APIs to earn money. Business tier requires a monthly subscription (year commitment).

You've never used OpenAI before and want to try it. Well, you need to subscribe, pay, and try. Never used it before? You need to subscribe, pay, and try. You want to try a new model? You need to subscribe, pay, and try. You want to try a new tool? You need to subscribe, pay, and try. You want to access old history? You need to subscribe, pay, and access.

Want to try the "new" gpt-4-t? You need to subscribe, pay, and try.

I want to pay for every call, every token that I've used, with a tiered pricing model. I'll pay $1 per n tokens. $5 per m tokens. $10 for o tokens. That's how much I understand about my usage. But I don't want to be **forced** to subscribe. I don't want to pay if I don't use it.

OpenAI's "continuous pricing" is not customer-centric. It's an excuse to generate cash. It's a constant cash grab.

So, how do people like this pricing model? It makes no sense. It's far more predatory than a tiered pricing model where you know exactly how much you'll be paying for your usage.

OpenAI's "continuous" pricing model is a scam and I hope it gets addressed.
