This is the story of Major Reno's Last Stand.

The Battle of the Little Bighorn was Custer's last battle. After his defeat, Reno and Benteen occupied a bluff. Several thousand warriors started to occupy a nearby ravine affording them perfect cover. The soldiers drew up and, as the warriors charged, the soldiers began shooting. They were vastly outnumbered.

Major Reno, the senior officer, didn't want to repeat Custer's mistake. When the warriors approached, he ordered the troops to fall back. He figured the cavalry could outrun the warriors, even though they were mounted. It was a sound decision, but it left Benteen's troops with no support. The senior officer had bugged out.

Benteen didn't think that was such a bright idea and he stood his ground. The success at this battle was not Custer's, but Benteen's. He kept the warriors occupied as Reno retreated with the majority of the troops.

The entire 7th Cavalry was saved by Custer's defeat. After Benteen defeated the warriors, Reno's troops recouped their losses. Benteen's charge was the last stand.
