Why do people like to claim they’re not “your typical” black girl.

Like, why do you think you need to preface yourself like that? Whether you’re black or not, you seem less interesting when you claim you’re not your typical black girl.

Why do people feel like they need to say this? “I’m not like your typical black girl” what does that even mean?? That you’re like any other white girl? There’s something wrong with the black race?

I’ve been seeing posts on Facebook that say this, where you’ve got your black girl in the post saying “I’m not like your typical black girl” and talking about the stereotypes they’ve broken, like “I don’t like hip hop, I’m moving away from the hood, I don’t like rap, I don’t use slang anymore, I speak like the white people etc.”

And then you’ve got these white guys in the post who are just trying to get with these girls and the guys are saying stuff like “I had no idea black girls had accents like this” or “I had no idea a black girl could be so intelligent” or “black girls look really good when they straighten their hair” and she’ll be like “yeah, I get that a lot” and I’m just wondering, why do they think they need to preface themselves like that? Why do they want to distance themselves from their race so much? Why does it matter if they like hip hop or rap? Why do they need to talk like white people?
Meaningful relationships are created when you date someone who likes you for who you are, not because you fit their “type”. And I’m not sure why they think they need to look down on black people in order to get that.
