My boyfriend and I have been using ingredients that we already have at home to make meals. We’ve saved a fortune!

First of all, we live in a small apartment. We cook a lot but we don’t cook much at all. I’m a single mother trying to make ends meet. We only have a tiny fridge so we can’t buy a lot of food at one time. I buy enough to last throughout the week and then we go grocery shopping again.

Recently, my boyfriend and I both lost our jobs. We were scared that we would go hungry. My boyfriend then suggested that we cook with random ingredients that we already have at home. We looked in the fridge and we saw instant ramen, a bag of frozen vegetables, garlic, soy sauce, and kimchi. So we decided to mix everything together in a sauce pan and add some soy sauce and kimchi to make instant ramen. It didn’t taste great but it filled us up.

We didn’t want to starve so we made a lot of meals using ingredients that we already had at home. We made a lot of fried rice using leftover rice, eggs, garlic, frozen vegetables, and soy sauce. And we also made ramen. We also used canned fish (tuna, sardines, mackerel), eggs, potatoes, pasta, tomato sauce, vegetables, rice, and cheese to make a lot of different meals. I also made a lot of salads using canned tuna, sardines, and mackerel.

I’m happy to say that we are fine. We don’t have jobs anymore but we’re surviving. We’ve saved so much money by not buying cooked food. We’re taking care of ourselves by eating at home and it’s cheaper. The only thing that we buy is rice, garlic, onions, kimchi, cheese, and vegetables. That’s all that we buy.

It’s been two months ever since my boyfriend and I made that instant ramen with soy sauce and kimchi. We know that we’ve saved a lot of money ever since we started cooking with random ingredients that we already have at home. We’re fine. We’re healthy and we’re not starving.
