The first time a native speaker has complimented my English.

I (German) have started my exchange semester in South Korea. I've lived there for two months now and over all I have made good experiences with my English skills. I can communicate with many people, especially the younger ones, and I've found friends who I can speak to in English. Usually, I don't think about my language skills that much. I just try to navigate everyday life as best as I can and I can even communicate with some professors who don't speak Korean.

I'm often complimented on my Korean skills, which I think are okayish for a two month stay.

However, today was the first time that a native speaker complimented my English skills. During a presentation, my group and I were asked questions by the audience. An American woman (I think she was a lecturer) kept asking us questions which I answered happily. She seemed satisfied with my answers and then even said that my English was perfect. It came out of nowhere and I didn't expect her to say that so I was quite happy about her statement. We've even made plans to meet up for coffee and talk about my exchange semester. (I think she just wants to make sure if I'm ready to live in the US)

So, to all my fellow Germans out there... keep practicing, you never know when the next opportunity will come.
