I don't see how we'll ever be able to compete with AGI.

I'm not talking about the hypothetical "super AGI" that will emerge presupposing that current AGI is smart enough to improve itself. I'm talking about the singularity that's happening right now in the current AGI. I.e. ChatGPT, Claude, Bard etc.

As far as I can tell, the current state of AGI is in many ways stronger than human intelligence, and with a few years will probably be significantly stronger. They possess an advantage across the board.

In terms of the sheer amount of information they have access to. They are more knowledgeable than 99.9% of the most knowledgeable people on earth.

In terms of the computational power that is required to do high level tasks. They are significantly more computational (i.e. "intelligent") than the smartest people on earth.

In terms of their ability to work. They are able to work grueling hours for months and months without a break. They're able to complete all tasks without getting even 1% fatigued.

The only advantage we have over AGI is creativity. They aren't able to do tasks that are subjective. I.e. they can't come up with novel uses of a brick, they can't come up with novel uses of a shoe, they can't come up with novel ways to use a ball, they can't make art, they can't write fiction, they can't come up with a novel dating technique, etc. They also don't have intuition or any sort of gut feeling about anything. The only presupposition they have when they approach a problem is to maximize efficiency and minimize cost (I.e. maximize intelligence while minimizing computation cost.)

But a lot of the jobs in society are tasks that are happening in a very objective way. The job market is changing, and while there will always be jobs available for humans, pretty much every job is at risk for getting outsourced to an AGI.
