Platonic relationships in stories

I'm a little bit bored of reading about how much the protagonist loves their BFF. I feel a little bit like the media is over using platonic relationships. Particularly in young adult, fantasy/sci-fi media like Percy Jackson, I don't know if anyone knows about it because it's not very well known in my country but its a story that was pretty popular in the UK like 10 years ago. I'm reading it again now because I'm feeling nostalgic but I remember it having a lot of the "chosen one" style media that was popular during the Harry Potter phase. I'm not trying to attack it specifically, it's just that in the books he's super duper close to his best mate Grover, and Annabeth. He doesn't have a single romantic relationship in the entire series, and it's like the author is trying to convince me he's 100% platonic.

I get that romance is overused, but I'm getting a little sick of this too, and I'm wondering if the media is moving towards a trend of depicting how much the protagonist loves their BFF. I feel like they are trying to show how strong a platonic bond can be by making the platonic relationships juicy and romantic. It's not my cup of tea, so I'm wondering, am I just being picky or is this a thing?
