I use the todo list method from the boy scout manual every day and it helps me stay on top of everything, and I feel like everyone could benefit from this method.

First off I should disclaim that I was never a boy scout, I am just a man in his mid 30's that hasn't had a job where he needs to be physically present in the last 5 years. Even though I work 8 hours a day I still have figured out how to do everything I want to do in life, which is a lot; the boy scout method has helped with this. When I first moved to where I live now I found a waterproof match case that I assume had been lost for many years by some scouts, it was in great condition, so I picked it up and cleaned it and it actually had some unused matches in there, but there was also a booklet, the official boy scout manual. I picked the waterproof match case up because I thought it would be a cool little trinket, but after I picked it up I thought I would read the manual, and I thought it had some great advice in it on various subjects. There is one section where they talk about how to organize your day and week, and one of the things that stuck with me was their to-do list method.

To-do lists are not unique or special, and I am sure you all use them, or have used them. But the boy scouts say:

>**1.** Write down everything you need to do.
>**2.** Rank them in order or priority.
>**3.** Determine what can be done today, tomorrow, and early in the week, and what should be done at the end of the week.
>**4.** Go down your list, and do everything that you can every day.
>**5.** Save anything left over until the next day, and add to the bottom of the list.
>**6.** Make this list every day, and update it daily.

This is a highly paraphrased version, but that is the summation in a nutshell. I use this every day, in my work and in my life. I am a software developer and I use this method every day at work, I have an ongoing list of bugs that appear, I add to the bottom of that list, and at the top I have the bugs to be fixed on any given day. It helps me stay organized better than any other method. I also use it for my daily life, things like laundry, grocery shopping, yard work, if I can't do it that day I write it down and move it to the next day. It is so simple, and it looks so rudimentary, but it really works.

I think if you give it a shot you will find that it makes your life easier.
