Do people really bring their pets in the office?

I am a software developer, been an IT guy for 6 years and I have never seen a pet in the office. We even have a no food policy ffs so I don't think animals would be allowed. Yes I have heard of this trend, but is it really a thing?<br><br>Edit: wow, this got a lot more attention than I thought! I guess it really is a thing in the US. Most of the comments were about dogs, but some mentioned cats. I guess I don't see the point of bringing them to work, but hey, I am not gonna judge you because of that. I might bring my cat as well if they let me, but I would never force them.
