Visit Australia or Visit New Zealand, which is better for sightseeing?

I've always wanted to visit Oceania and now that I can travel again, I'm set on going to either Australia or New Zealand. I've heard they both have stunning landscapes, but I've also heard Australia is dangerous? New Zealand might be safer, but is it worth it?
