Why is it so outrageous to me to pay for someones rent when they make more money than me

I've been living with my best friend for a couple months , i was in a bad situation and had to leave my place ASAP so i moved in with her. I pay rent, utilities, do the cleaning, and help out a lot. She makes way more than me too. And i never complain but it just clicked today with all the stuff i pay for and do, how i could afford an apartment of my own instead of paying someone rent and utilities when i do more than my fair share. My friend is great but i can't keep doing this. Is anyone else in a similar situation?
