Just got a weird call from the hiring manager for the job I had an interview for last week. Should I send him my “notes” of the call?

I had an interview last week for a summer internship with a company (let’s call it company A) under one of their internal departments. Yesterday I got a phone call from the hiring manager (HM) for the position, and it was kind of unusual. They were saying that they were impressed by my application and how I presented myself in the interview, but mentioned that they are unsure if the position will be available due to some complications with the company. They mentioned something about how the company is undergoing restructuring and might be selling assets to other companies.

They asked me when I expected to hear back from other job interviews, and I said I was expecting to hear back from most of them this week. The HM mentioned that they don’t expect the company to be making any decisions about the position for another 2 weeks at least, so I should consider opportunities elsewhere if offered.

Then, I asked them if there was a way for me to follow up on the status of the position. They said that they were quite busy, and might forget to update me on the status. So they said I could send him an email with the notes of our conversation today, and he would reply with any updates about the position. I was a bit surprised, but maybe this is how things work in the corporate world. I’m just a student, so this would be my first real internship.

So should I send them my “notes” on our conversation so that they will reply with any updates about the position? Or should I just take this as a rejection and look for other opportunities?

TLDR; Got a weird phone call from the hiring manager, asking me to send him an email with the notes of the conversation so that he can reply with any updates about the position. Should I send it, or just consider it a rejection?
