What would you do if you woke up one morning and found out that every Republican was suddenly gone?

This may sound a little weird, but hear me out. If we all woke up one morning and found out that every single Republican in the country had just suddenly, mysteriously vanished overnight, what would you do?

I think the first reaction for most of us would be utter shock. We would all be in a daze, roaming around and muttering things like, “What the fuck?”, “Where did they all go?”, and “Did I actually just wake up or am I still dreaming about this shit?” We would turn on our televisions, radios, and computers, hoping to get some answers to our questions, but all anyone could talk about was the pure bewilderment of the entire thing.

Pretty soon, though, we’d all realize that something else was going on – something pretty big. The highways would be less crowded and it would seem as if there were far fewer cars on the road because almost every single Trump supporting American had just disappeared into thin air. The same would be true for the airplanes – there would be far, far fewer people at the airport and a whole hell of a lot fewer planes in the sky.

It would quickly become apparent that well over 60 million people, and probably closer to 70 or 80 million, had just mysteriously vanished from the face of the earth.

There would be empty houses all over the place – probably well over 50 million of them, maybe as many as 70 or 80 million. There would be millions and millions of suddenly very lonely dogs, cats, and other animals wondering where in hell their owners had gone. There would be tens of millions of unoccupied automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles sitting in those empty houses’ garages and carports or parked out on the street.

And it would be very, very quiet. A great many trumpet playing Americans had just vanished, along with a whole hell of a lot of terrible singers. Tens of millions of drums would go unbanged.

Of course, there would be a whole bunch of suddenly very worried parents as tens of millions of parents discovered that their children were now missing. Imagine going to check their rooms and finding them unoccupied. The wails of grief and sadness from parents all over the country who discovered their children had just disappeared would be spine chilling.

And think of all the poor souls at work who woke up that morning and found out that their spouses were gone. How many tears do you think would be shed at workplaces all over the country as tens of millions of Americans discovered that their other halves had vanished into thin air? How many tearful calls would be made to families and friends? How many restaurants, parks, and other places would people go to cry?

Pretty soon, though, we’d all start wondering if this mass disappearance extended outside of just the United States, or if it was a worldwide thing. Did all of the Republicans in the world just disappear? Were Republicans all over the world also just vanishing at the exact same time as the Republicans in the United States?

We would quickly learn that the answer to that question was “no”. Republicans all over the world were still alive and well. It was only the Republicans in the United States who had mysteriously vanished.

Pretty soon, we’d hear from Republicans who were in foreign countries – especially in western democracies like Canada, England, France, and Australia – who were asking for political asylum. Republicans who were stationed in military bases all over the world would be asking to stay where they were. Republicans who were on vacation, whether they were on land or still in the middle of the ocean at sea, would be asking to stay wherever they were.

Of course, Republicans in Mexico and other Central or South American countries would be trying to make their way back to the United States, as would Republicans who were on vacation in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, China, India, or Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, though, they would soon learn that it didn’t matter *where* they were in the world. All Republicans had mysteriously vanished in the same manner, location and circumstances notwithstanding.

The United States government and all of the state governments would be in utter turmoil. Tens of millions of people would suddenly find themselves out of work because their employer or career had just vanished into thin air. Conversely, though, tens of millions of Americans would suddenly find themselves with brand a new career that they had not expected. The government would also have tens of millions of new jobs to fill, and almost all Republicans who occupied positions within the federal and state governments would be gone. Nancy Pelosi, who, as the House Speaker, is third on the line to the presidency, would suddenly occupy the White House.

Now imagine how Republicans all over the country would react if every single Democrat had suddenly and mysteriously vanished overnight. Do you think that they would be dancing in the street? Do you think that they would be celebrating? Do you think that they would be saying things like, “Good – and I hope they never come back! Fuck Democrats”?

Or do you think that Republicans would react the same way that we are right now – in a state of absolute shock, bewilderment, grief, and sadness?

Well, I think this exercise shows us all that there is a great difference between Republicans and Democrats.

For one, we are all human beings and we realize that politics are politics while life is life itself. On the other hand, Republicans put politics over and above everything else, even and especially human life.

And second, Republicans – who claim to be and probably consider themselves to be Christians – would actually celebrate the deaths of tens of millions of Americans if only they happened to be Democrats. On the other hand, even though we disagree with Republicans politically and realize that by their very definition Republicans stand for the manifestation of self-centered power and wealth into policy against the will of the vast supermajority of us, we recognize that Republicans are human beings and are therefore capable of experiencing love, sadness, joy, and every other human emotion. We realize that tens of millions of human beings who are also parents, siblings, spouses, loved ones, neighbors, co-workers, schoolmates, and friends have just disappeared never to be seen again, and that would cause us all a great deal of pain.

It’s just too fucking sad to think about.

So let’s all send thoughts, prayers, love, and light to all republikkklans who vanished that morning.

You are loved and you are missed.

Edit: Wow, this blew up fast. Thank you all so, so much for the attention. Please stay civil and keep it political. Also, please share this. I feel like it could be something that could help bridge the political divide in this country in some small way.
