I've watched childfree couples argue about the parenting style of parents with kids. I'm just over here thinking the parents have it worse.

I've never seen a parenting conversation end well between people in this sub. It seems like parents and childfree people can't have a conversation about parenting without the conversation getting quippy and mean and combative.

I'm childfree, and I think I've figured out why this is.

I've never met a childfree person who intentionally seeks out parents. It just doesn't happen. If a childfree person doesn't want to talk to a parent, it's *incredibly* easy for them to avoid it.

Parents have no choice in the matter. They can't go a single day without interacting with people they don't want to. Waking up at 6am to get their kid fed, dressed and off to school is just the start of it.

The first thing a parent does when they wake up is their job. It's a never-ending, difficult job that they can't quit, no matter what. They have to be ready to do it at any time of day, and they can't go a single day without doing it, lest their kid suffer.

This isn't something a childfree person will ever experience. The closest we'll ever get is having a pet, which is hard work in its own right, but isn't in the same stratosphere as parenting.

So yeah, childfree people can be mean on the internet. It sucks. But at least we don't have to deal with the constant drudgery of parenting and the lack of any semblance of free time.
