The most popular comment in rpolitcs is a comment from the rpolitcs community itself, raising the question of, why are we here?

At one time I stopped posting on this community/website, and I visited /c/AskTeenagers and noticed a very high level of enagement by the community's subscribers, and for a few weeks I enjoyed engaging with the subscribers there. At the end of those weeks I visited r/politics to see what was going on in the news, and on the front page I saw a thread which I believe was a community post type, that was asking the question "Why are we here?" (paraphrased). I didn't read the comments but I looked at the amount of votes and it was astronomical. I then asked myself the question "why am I here?" and the next day I unsubscribed from this subreddit.

Why are we here? If we want to have a useful conversation, we visit other subreddits. If we want to know what's going on in politics, we visit a news website, or watch a news stream, or visit a different subreddit. If we want to feel like we are accomplishing something, there are infinite other activities we could engage in to help others, or to help ourselves. Why are we here?
