I found a closed thread with this title, but it was locked due to age, so I'm starting a new one.

Mine is The Chosen One. I love it because it's a rich path to go down and it's been done a million times, but I think in the majority of cases it's much too straightforward. You have a prophesied One, they go through a series of trials, they save the world. Now, yes, I've done some of that in my own work, but I believe it's the most interesting when it gets subverted. Carrying the weight of destiny is too much for some people. Most people, really. You get to see the best and worst of your characters, to really make the reader question if they'd be up to this monumental task, if they ever were to begin with.

Its such an interesting area to explore, and that's why it's the trope I'm the most interested in.
