I don't understand why so many people want to learn Japanese

Please don't take this the wrong way, I do think that the Japanese culture is very interesting and it's not my intention to belittle it in any way.

I don't get why Japan is so high on the list of the most popular languages, it's even higher than Korean for example which seems more useful to learn imo. I'm not even gonna compare it to Arabic or Chinese, those are the most obvious examples.

I don't mean to offend any Japanese speakers, but Japanese is an island language, so if you ever want to visit, you can easily get around by only speaking English. And the chances of you meeting a Japanese person in your everyday life is so low, unless you go to an Asian restaurant.

Furthermore, the writing systems are so complicated, it's like Korean times 3. I've seen so many people give up on Japanese, because they just couldn't deal with the Kanji's anymore.

Lastly, Japanese is just so far away from the rest of the world, it's almost as bad as Korea. I mean, why would you want to visit Japan if you can easily go to Spain, France, Germany, Italy etc for way less money.? And the only profession I can think of, where speaking Japanese would be useful is being an interpreter.
