What is it about philosophy that seems to attract the worst people?

I’ve been getting into philosophy recently, reading books, watching YouTube videos, etc., and then I took a philosophy course. The first day of the class all we did was talk about our personal philosophies, and one kid said in all seriousness that he believed it was okay to murder children and the elderly because they were weak. Then he said he was a docetist Christian and believed that even if God told him to exterminate a race of people he would do it happily because of some weird loyalty thing. I don’t know if he just said this shit for the shock value, but it seriously made me wonder, what is it about philosophy that seems to attract the worst people? I know this is a huge generalization, but I’ve noticed it time and time again in different places of discussion.
